The island of Punta Pennata, on the Neapolitan coast in front of the town of Bacoli, has been put up for sale by Sotheby's. This corner of paradise from the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Pozzuoli is expected to end up to the highest bidder, following the announcement published by the real estate company of the historic English auction house, but the mayor of the town in the Phlegraean Fields, Josi Della Ragione, has no intention of giving up on the islet and would like to buy it to make it part of the community's heritage again. This strip of land surrounded by clear waters in front of the Bacoli shoreline was part of an ancient volcanic crater in the Phlegraean Fields and was connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand. Punta Pennata became an islet following a storm surge in 1966 that submerged the natural corridor, which was washed away permanently by subsequent bradyseism phenomena. Part of the islet is owned by a private individual, who entrusted Sotheby's International Realty, with the sale of about 200 square meters of this corner of paradise, with an attached residence. The mayor has estimated the value of the entire property at €5 million, an amount the municipality would be willing to invest to make the island a nature park.
