On Monday, January 20, the United Nations Human Rights Council's Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) will conduct its fourth examination of Italy's human rights situation. The conference will take place in Geneva and will be aired live online. Italy will be one of 14 states assessed by the Working Group during its next session, which will take place from January 20 to January 31, 2025. The first, second, and third examinations of Italy were held in February 2010, October 2014, and November 2019, respectively. The Working Group includes the Human Rights Council's 47 member states. National examinations, on the other hand, are open to all 193 UN member states. The examinations are conducted using the information provided by the audited State, reports from independent human rights experts and groups, such as Special Procedures, human rights treaty bodies, and other UN entities, and information provided by other stakeholders, including national human rights institutions, regional organizations, and civil society groups.
