Fragility fractures, that is, those due to a weakening of the bone, mainly due to osteoporosis, are a major public health problem that is likely to have an increasing social and economic burden due to the aging of the population. According to a study by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, 4 percent of the Italian population is in a fragile condition, a percentage that increases with age, to the point that more than 50 percent of those over 65 are considered “pre-fragile.”
