2024 saw record figures for organ donations and transplants, with the highest numbers ever for stem cells as well. There were 2,110 organ donations (+2.7% compared to 2023) and 3,192 referrals of potential donors came from resuscitations (+3.2%). Numbers that resulted in as many as 4,692 transplants, 226 more than in 2023 (+5.1%). Growth in heart and kidney transplants in particular. This is a success for the activity of the Italian Transplantology Network, even if the knot of oppositions resists: although in resuscitations the percentage of those who refused donation fell to 29.3%, the number of people who chose to register a “no” to possible donation after death increased when the electronic identity card was issued. However, the national donation rate rose to 30.2 donors per million people: the first time Italy has exceeded 30, a level that places the country among the top European countries for organ donation. The regions with the highest rate are confirmed as Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto.
