Italian sparkling wine exports to the United States increased by 41% in November, reflecting a rush for inventory ahead of President Donald Trump's wine import duties. Exports of bottled still wines also increased by 17%. This surge was accompanied by a strong dollar, resulting in a 7% increase in Italian exports to the United States in the first eleven months of 2024, including a 19.5% gain in sparkling wines, with Prosecco accounting for three out of every four bottles. According to the Italian Wine Union's (UIV) Observatory, the United States is the primary market for Italian wines, accounting for 24% of total exports and expected to exceed 1.9 billion euros in 2024. Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of UIV, stated that the good news is Americans' fondness for Italian wines, but the problem is the impending duties. Another noteworthy metric is the peak number of orders reported in November, which totaled around 54 million euros, representing a 29% increase.
