Francesco Schettino, the former Captain of the Costa Concordia who was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the January 13, 2012, shipwreck that killed 32 people, has requested entry to the semi-freedom regime. As a result of serving more than half of his sentence, Schettino has acquired the necessary maturity to request alternative measures to detention. The decision will be made on March 4 by the Surveillance Court of Rome.
