Increased customs and tariff barriers. This is the main concern of Italian companies operating in the United States, according to a Promos Italia survey. The survey shows that the main concern for 59.5% of these businesses is an increase in customs and tariff barriers, with particular reference to duties on Italian goods such as agri-food products, textiles and machinery. 45.6% of companies believe that the new U.S. administration will not affect their strategies, however, they closely monitor the developments that the Trump presidency may bring, while 22.8% consider making possible adjustments to their strategies to reduce dependence on the United States, such as expanding to emerging markets like Southeast Asia and Africa, increasing investments in e-commerce and developing partnerships with local companies in Europe to strengthen production and trade chains. The survey shows that the scaremongering of recent months on trade relations with the United States is excessive - explains Giovanni Da Pozzo, President of Promos Italia - Certainly it is necessary to carefully monitor the evolution of U.S. trade policies, however, the current complex geopolitical context suggests diversifying destination markets anyway. Promos Italia, in this sense, is at the side of SMEs supporting them in identifying business partners in more than 60 countries around the world".
