Italy is a victim of increasingly complex and intensive cyber-attacks, which are becoming more common. This was highlighted in Check Point Software's Annual Report on the Situation of Cybersecurity, which was released at the end of November. In the six months between May and October 2024, the country had an average of 1,896 weekly attacks, which was more than 200 more than the global average. The most alarming are deepfakes, which are fake videos, photographs, and audio that are produced by artificial intelligence on the basis of real content, synthesizing the human voice and image. The Trend Micro report "The easy way in-out, securing the artificial future" has included these increasingly convincing threats as one of the primary concerns for the year 2025. Experts believe that deepfakes will be widely used this year. If the new technology enables the creation of digitally manipulated images and videos through AI, the objective of cybercriminals is to produce artificial subjects that perform actions that have never occurred in real life. In fact, a person's voice and face are changed, resulting in fake but fully convincing films. On the black web, you may discover tables with the rates demanded by hackers to sell deepfakes: a lip-sync, for example, costs around 100 euros for thirty seconds of video. The expense of replacing the full face jumps to 150 euros.
