In 2024, Italian corporations announced 280 mergers and acquisitions with overseas targets, up from 261 in the preceding period. This represents an investment of approximately 14.3 billion euros, which is roughly in line with prior years' historical average. The top five nations for M&A transactions by Italian corporations are the United States (39 deals), Germany (33), Spain (32), France (31) and the United Kingdom (23). Some significant transactions are expected to be completed in the first months of 2025, including Apollo's acquisition of IGT's Gaming & Digital business for approximately 4 billion euros, the integration of Italgas and 2i ReteGas to create the largest gas distribution group for a consideration of more than 2 billion euros, and Enel's acquisition of Corporación Acciona Hidráulica for 1 billion euros.
