Five years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, there are still numerous cases of patients in Italy who, even long after recovery, have persistent symptoms due to the so-called PASC, an acronym for Post-Acute Sequelae of Sars-CoV-2 infection. "About 6 out of 10 patients hospitalized for Covid-19 in the most acute phases of the pandemic (2020) still have symptoms, while in less severe cases evaluated by general practitioners who did not require hospitalization, the ratio is 1 case per 10 patients". This is indicated by the results of the PASCNET scientific project, which, through a survey based on systematic clinical data collection of more than 1,200 patients, sought to assess the clinical impact of PASC and, at the same time, to investigate the consequences that the Covid-19 pandemic had on the Lombardy Regional Health Service. The epidemiological study analyzed the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on a population of about 10 million people, 45% of whom were aged 50 years or older and had a prevalence of heart disease of 22%, thus able to provide a detailed and comprehensive description of its impact on the population residing in Lombardy from March 2020 to December 2022.
