The number of passengers in European ports is growing. Leading the way, with 395.3 million passengers in 2023 and a 5.8% increase over 2022, are Italy and Greece. They are the Italian ports that record the largest number of passengers: 85.4 million, or 22% of the total. Right behind are Greece's ports with 75 million passengers or 19% of the total. Then, with a figure worth less than half of Italy's, is Denmark with 41.2 million (10% of the total). Italian ports of call record the highest numbers in terms of passengers transited. Topping the list of EU ports is Messina in Sicily, with 11.3 million passengers. The second port is also the preserve of Italy. It is that of Reggio Calabria, which recorded 11.1 million passengers. The third port is in Greece, in Piraeus, with 9.6 million.
