At the national level, the overall labor input, as defined by the number of employees, increased by 1.9% in 2023. Growth affected the entire country, but the South had the most dynamic distribution, with employment up 2.6% from 2022. The North-East saw a slightly bigger increase than the national average (+2.0%), while the North-West and Centre reported smaller increases of 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively, according to Istat. The Services sector leads in job growth throughout all divisions, followed by Industry in the South, North-East, and North-West, and Construction in the Centre. In the South, employment growth is noted in all economic sectors, but it is primarily tied to the trend in the Industry (+3.5% compared to 2022) and Services (+2.8%) sectors, which saw the highest increases. It is also worth noting that employment in Construction has increased by 2.0%, compared to 1.3% nationwide. In Agriculture, the modest growth of employment (+0.4%) was in contrast to the decrease observed in other regions.
