It could have been a day of clarification, but that was not the case. The affair involving Libyan General Almasri— subject to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court and released from prison after being arrested in Turin and then returned to his homeland on a state plane —was supposed to be the subject of a government briefing before Parliament on Wednesday, January 29. The briefing was to be given by the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi. However, the day before, both ministers, along with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, were informed that they had been entered into the official register of criminal reports. Because of this, the briefing note was cancelled, to the great disappointment of the opposition, which made their voices heard in both Chambers. The opposition was not satisfied with the willingness of the Minister for Parliamentary Relations, Luca Ciriani, to report on the matter on the same day. In the end, the decision regarding the scheduling of the briefings was postponed to Tuesday, February 4.
