Parmigiano Reggiano breaks one record after another and closes 2024 with quotations, production, and sales at record highs. Last year, sales increased 9.2% to 148,698 tons, thanks to performance in Italy, +5.2%, and abroad, +13.7%. The momentum is favorable for several Italian cheeses, from Gorgonzola to buffalo mozzarella, but Parmigiano Reggiano owes its rise to great quality. In addition, consumers' perception of an ideal product for taking in needed protein, an alternative to meat, is being consolidated. 2024 was also the year of the latest production leap: 4.08 million wheels. Quotations also set new peaks: 11 euros/kg (+9.1%) the annual average wholesale price of Parmigiano Reggiano aged 12 months. Consumer turnover is expected to be around 3.1 billion thanks to a network of 292 dairies and 2,100 farms employing about 50,000 workers. Parmigiano Reggiano's momentum across borders has pushed the export share to 43% of the total, especially with the United States, which after overtaking France, has become the leading market with about a quarter of exports.
