On the occasion of European Data Protection Day, which was celebrated on January 28, research by the influential Bruno Kessler Foundation of Trento revealed that among the most commonly used passwords in Italy are combinations of numbers such as “123456” or “12345678”, or words such as "password", "cambiami", and "juventus". Well, the authors of the research advise users who had recognized among their passwords such as these to review their online security habits: it is indeed crucial to use strong and different passwords for each service. "Passwords are the first line of defense against cyber attacks; therefore, it is important to avoid predictable combinations such as "123456" or "password", preferring more complex and secure solutions. A good practice is to adopt a passphrase at least 16 characters long, containing uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special symbols. Also, it is essential to change passwords regularly and not reuse them for multiple accounts", explains Giada Sciarretta, one of the authors of the research.
