On Sunday afternoon, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake shook Naples and the Phlegraean municipalities, causing panic and alarm among people. The quake, recorded at 3:29 PM with its epicenter in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, was strongly felt in several parts of Naples, including Secondigliano and Fuorigrotta, as well as in nearby towns such as Giugliano. The seismic incident is part of a swarm that has been affecting the Phlegraean Fields area since Saturday, February 15, with over 60 quakes recorded so far. Following the major quake, Naples' mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, reassured the population with a message on X: "We have conducted all necessary checks. I am in constant contact with the Emergency Coordination Center, and I want to reassure citizens: no damage to schools or disruptions to road traffic have been reported in the city". On the other hand, the mayor of Pozzuoli, Gigi Manzoni, has ordered the closure of schools for the day as a precautionary measure.
