Campione d'Italia, a municipality in the province of Como with about 1,800 inhabitants, is the only Italian exclave located in Swiss territory, between the Canton of Ticino and Lake Lugano. In addition to this geographical singularity, the municipality also has other peculiarities. Recently, the program "Fuori dal Coro" revealed that Campione d'Italia spends about 2.7 million euros a year to pay the salaries of its 15 municipal employees. Mayor Roberto Canesi, speaking on the Rete 4 program, said: "I think that Campione is a largely Swiss reality". According to the data provided, the municipal secretariat receives about 15,000 euros per month, while the local police inspector earns 11,000 euros. The registry officer collects 10,000 euros a month, while a municipal worker receives 7,000 euros. Despite the mayor's promises to reduce salaries, there have been no changes at the moment. City councilor Simone Verda stressed that "salaries have not been cut", on the contrary, an incentive of over one million euros has been granted for arrears to employees. The municipality of Campione d'Italia receives about 10 million euros annually from the Italian state, of which 2.7 million are intended to cover the expenses for municipal personnel.
