This morning, the Holy See Press Office provided an update on Pope Francis’ condition, stating that he "slept through the night and is now continuing to rest." The Pontiff has been hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli Polyclinic since February 14.
Last night, the Vatican Press Office reported that the Pope had experienced "two additional acute respiratory crises" during the day. These episodes were "caused by a significant buildup of endobronchial mucus, leading to bronchospasm." As a result, "two bronchoscopies were performed to remove a large amount of secretions, followed by the resumption of non-invasive mechanical ventilation." Despite this, the Pope "remained alert, oriented, and cooperative." However, doctors are still maintaining a reserved prognosis.
Later in the evening, another moment of prayer took place in St. Peter’s Square, where the Rosary was recited. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, led the prayer, saying: "Let us pause in prayer with Mary, Mother of the Church, for the health of the Holy Father, Pope Francis." He added, "She, the Mother of Holy Hope, assists, restores, and comforts all who seek her help. May she also be, for us this evening, a sign of consolation and certain hope."
