On the occasion of World Obesity Day, which is celebrated today, UNICEF Italy - with the contribution of the National Institute of Health - launches the new publication "The Right Weight" on the topic of children's overweight and obesity. Worldwide, in 2022, 37 million boys and girls under the age of 5 and more than 390 million boys, girls and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 19 were overweight. In 2023, 28.8% of boys and girls aged 8 to 9 in Italy were overweight/obese. "Overweight and obesity pose new and growing threats to the health of boys and girls; malnutrition means not only not having enough to eat, but also eating incorrectly or unhealthily. With the easy accessibility of unhealthy and cheap foods, children and girls - especially those in poverty - are not getting the nutritious diet they need for healthy growth," said Carmela Pace, President of UNICEF Italy.
