Martina Gentile, 33, was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison and one year of probation for aiding and abetting and Induced non-compliance with a sentence, with the aggravating factor of having favored Cosa Nostra. The woman, daughter of the teacher Laura Bonafede - historical partner of the boss Matteo Messina Denaro - was accused of facilitating the exchange of correspondence between the former fugitive and her mother through a system of pizzini (small paper notes) delivered to her and other recipients. Lorena Lanceri, who had already been convicted on appeal, was also implicated in the scheme. Before the judge, Gentile attempted to distance herself from her former godfather, admitting she had made a mistake in caring for a man who didn’t deserve it. However, the court did not find her remorse to be credible and convicted her of being a part of the communication system that protected Messina Denaro during his years on the run.
