The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject report confirms for the fifth year in a row the University's absolute supremacy in the subject Classics and Ancient History with a score of 99.1 and the national supremacy in as many as two subject areas out of 5: "Arts & Humanities" and "Natural Sciences", ranking 40th and 61st worldwide, respectively. The Ranking analyzes 55 subjects grouped into 5 broad subject areas. La Sapienza was ranked in 46 disciplines, registering an improvement at the macro-area level, with 3 of them placed in the Top 100 (Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences, Engineering & Technology). Globally, Italy ranks seventh in terms of the number of entries in the rankings and the number of universities ranked. Very well also the University of Genoa ranked among the best universities in the world in 14 areas. As far as excellence is concerned, Italy ranks second in terms of the number of entries in the Top 10 subjects, with seven placements (one less than last year), one more than France (6), right after the Netherlands, in the lead with 14 placements, and globally outranking those of Germany and Japan by four places (3 placements each).
