The Heo Pathfinder satellite, launched in January as the first of the Iride constellation, has sent its first photographs from space, depicting Rome's Olympic Stadium, the Tiber, and St. Peter's. The Iride initiative, which is funded by the NRRP and coordinated by the European Space Agency with help from the Italian Space Agency, intends to advance Earth observation. The image of Rome is part of a 100-kilometer stretch that covers central Italy and has a resolution of 2.66 meters, three times that of the existing Italian territory. "It is not just a photo, but the result of an important industrial and technological challenge", stated David Davino, CEO of Argotec. Heo Pathfinder, a 65 kg microsatellite, is the first of 25 units set to launch by 2026. The Iride constellation, with a total of 68 satellites, will provide data for environmental monitoring, emergency management, and security, with a particular focus on Italy.
