Meta and the Italian Revenue Agency will face off in court after Mark Zuckerberg's tech giant opted not to use the tax assessment settlement procedure. The company is accused of failing to declare and pay VAT on over 877 million euros between 2015 and 2021. The deadline for a possible settlement with the tax authorities expired in March, but Meta chose not to regularize its position and did not make any payments. In all likelihood, the corporation will file an appeal with the tax authorities regarding the disagreements. On the criminal front, the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office may seek to indict the two directors of Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, the company's Irish division. The investigations, which are being carried out by Milanese prosecutors in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza, are based on the hypothesis of massive tax evasion in Italy.
