The Italian design and furniture industry is confirmed as the most environmentally sustainable in Europe, with an average emission of 26 kg of CO₂ per thousand euros of production, significantly lower than Germany (43 kg), France (49 kg) and Spain (over 200 kg). This was revealed in a study by ClimateSeed, presented at Design Week in Milan, which highlights the industry's commitment to sustainable innovation. A key role is played by the Ecodesign regulation, effective July 2024, which mandates greater attention to product durability, reparability and recyclability. According to Federlegno Arredo, 44% of Italian companies have already adopted Ecodesign policies, while 81% plan to do so by 2027. Strategies for reducing emissions include energy efficiency, use of recycled materials and low environmental impact logistics. A further contribution comes from the second-hand market, which counteracts the phenomenon of Fast Deco. In 2023, 60% of Italians chose used products, generating a turnover of 26 billion euros (+16% compared to 2014). According to an analysis by the website Subito, the reuse of 20 million products avoided 2.7 million tons of CO₂, confirming the environmental value of the circular economy.
