In Venice, work on the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery at the Ca' d'Oro started in 2023 and is to be completed by the Architecture Biennale in 2027. The general restoration involves plaster, ceilings, wooden and marble apparatus, fixtures and floors to which will be added plant and lighting renovation and the refurbishment of the museum that holds Baron Giorgio Franchetti's collection of sculptures, wooden furnishings, textile artifacts and paintings, including Andrea Mantegna's celebrated "Saint Sebastian". Despite the construction site, the Ca' d'Oro has remained open and partially visitable through a temporary relocation of some works. However, with the completion of a first installment, starting April 7 the museum will be closed to the public until the work on the second floor and the renovation of the central heating and air conditioning system are completed. Remaining accessible at all times, however, will be the hallway with its marvelous floor mosaic, while periodic extraordinary openings are being defined on the occasion of the arrival of individual works as "special guests". Venetian Heritage has raised the necessary funding for the intervention: 8.5 million euros, 2 of which were donated by the Giulio and Giovanna Sacchetti Foundation (for the entire second floor), the rest coming from numerous donors through a fundraising campaign (including Al Thani Collection, Giorgio Armani, Peter Marino, SAVE Venice Airport, Marzotto family), liberal donations from the Foundation's regular supporters and from funds raised during the Venetian Heritage Biennale Gala Weekends.
