In 2024, the disposable income of Italian households increased by 2.7% (+35.2 billion euros), while the more moderate growth in inflation supported a 1.3% increase in purchasing power, which had remained stable in 2023. According to the ISTAT report “The National Accounts by Institutional Sector - Years 1995-2024”, final consumption expenditure grew by 1.7% (+21.3 billion euros), less than disposable income, leading to an increase in the propensity to save, from 8.2% in 2023 to 9.0% in 2024. Household primary income increased by 49.5 billion euros (+3.4%), mainly due to growth in income from employment (+5.0%) and income from home ownership (+4.8%). In contrast, income from financial assets (-1.9%) declined. On the tax front, households paid 19.5 billion euros more in current taxes than in 2023 (+7.6%), with a 5.0% increase in IRPEF revenue and a sharp increase in withholding taxes on investment income and managed savings (+67.1%).
