Avarie Anne Tierney, a 21-year-old American student, died yesterday afternoon in Rome from anaphylactic shock after eating a sandwich at a club in the Pigneto area. The young woman, who was allergic to cashews, was at an Erasmus student center with some friends when she became ill. After she was able to return to her quarters, the friends attempted to rescue her by administering medication and performing cardiac massage, but the situation precipitated. 118 personnel, who arrived on the scene, tried to resuscitate her for about half an hour, without success. According to initial reconstructions, the girl may not have communicated her allergy to the venue staff because of the language barrier. However, an autopsy will clarify the exact cause of death.
