Some 83% of Italians are concerned about Internet, smartphone and tablet addiction among teenagers, a figure that is up sharply from 66% in 2019. This is according to a survey sponsored by Con i Bambini and conducted by the Demopolis Institute, on the occasion of the first National Day of Listening to Minors, which is celebrated on April 9. Also among the most perceived dangers are youth violence and baby gangs (75%), bullying and cyberbullying (72%), as well as alcohol and drug use (67%), an increase of 21 points in the last five years. Also of concern are poor school performance (62%) and language impoverishment (59%). The future of their children is the main source of anxiety for nearly 8 out of 10 parents, especially among those with children between the ages of 14 and 17. Moreover, 64% percent fear for their mental and physical health, 56% for smartphone addiction, while 73% are afraid they may experience violence or bullying when they are away from home. This is followed by fears of traffic accidents (64%), relationship problems (40%) and loneliness (39%).
