"At this moment in history, when there is a worrying growth of wars and tensions between states, the importance of humanitarian corridors as a model of reception and integration is emphasized. For Afghans, who had to leave their country with great suffering after the great flight from Kabul in August 2021, and who, forgotten by the international community, are waiting to be resettled, it is finally a sign of hope". President of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo thus comments on the signing of the new agreement between the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs and several organizations, CEI, Sant'Egidio, FCEI, Tavola Valdese, ARCI, OIM and UNHCR to bring 700 Afghan refugees to Italy. It is, a note explains, an addendum to the pact already signed in November 2021, which allowed the entry of 812 Afghan nationals (refugees in Pakistan, Iran and Turkey), welcomed and integrated by the associations. Overall, the humanitarian corridors promoted by the Roman community of Sant'Egidio have allowed the safe arrival in Europe of 8,200 refugees. This is a project, entirely self-financed, implemented thanks to a network of reception spread among the population.
