The Antitrust Authority has imposed a fine of nearly 20 million euros on Società Cooperativa Culture (CoopCulture) and six tour operators - Tiqets International, GetYourGuide Deutschland, Walks, Italy With Family, City Wonders Limited and Musement - for the prolonged unavailability of access tickets to the Colosseum Archaeological Park. The investigation, which began in July 2023, found that between 1997 and 2024 CoopCulture, the official concessionaire of the service, did not adequately counter the hoarding of tickets through bots and automated systems, while also reserving large quotas for sales combined with guided tours, with significant economic benefits. According to the Authority, tourists were actually pressured to purchase tickets only through external platforms at increased prices and with mandatory ancillary services. The conducts were qualified as unfair business practices in violation of the Consumer Code.
