ENEA unveiled yesterday CRESCO8, the new high-performance supercomputer installed at the Portici Research Center. With over 9 PFlops of computational power, CRESCO8 represents a technological leap from its predecessors, CRESCO6 and CRESCO7, and will be included in the upcoming TOP500 ranking of the world's fastest supercomputers. Designed to support research activities in the areas of fusion energy, climate change, Artificial Intelligence and new materials, CRESCO8 will be available to universities, research organizations and businesses. One of its main uses will be in the PNRR DTT-U project, aimed at the development of nuclear fusion. The supercomputer uses the Lenovo ThinkSystem SD650 V3 Neptune infrastructure, consisting of 758 nodes with the latest generation Intel Xeon CPUs and water cooling, which saves up to 40% power for the cooling system.
