The Genoa Police Mobile Squad has dismantled a criminal organization specializing in scams on the elderly. According to investigations, the group allegedly pulled off at least 103 hits throughout Italy. The operation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted with searches in the provinces of Naples and Caserta, involved about 300 officers. Some 77 precautionary measures were executed: 22 arrests and 55 residence obligations in the city of Naples. The investigation made it possible to reconstruct a well-established system, with roles distributed between those who contacted victims by pretending to be Carabinieri or lawyers and those who then showed up at their homes to collect money or valuables. The investigation continues to identify possible accomplices and ascertain the total amount of the scams.
