Of the approximately 950 thousand declarations of willingness to donate organs and tissues that were recorded during the renewal of the identity card in the first quarter of 2025, 570 thousand individuals opted to consent to organ harvesting after death (60.3%), while 380 thousand chose to oppose (39.7%). In contrast, there were 680,000 citizens who abstained. The figure is from the National Transplant Center's periodic report. Currently, 22.3 million declarations have been made in the Transplant Information System, with 15.5 million consents and 6.8 million oppositions. The most likely to give organs after death are people aged 40 to 50, with 68.6% agreeing and 31.4% disagreeing this year. The most skeptical are people over the age of 60 (48.4% "no"). Verceia, a small community in Valchiavenna, province of Sondrio, has become the most generous municipality in Italy in terms of donations, thanks to its residents. Out of 158 citizens, 139 expressed themselves (19 abstentions), with 138 yeses and just one no. Rounding out the top three most generous municipalities this year are Cinte Tesino (Trentino) and Longano (Isernia). Among cities with over 100,000 residents, Trento once again confirmed its leading position (73.6% yes, 22.4% no, 32.4% abstentions), ahead of Sassari and Verona.
