Marc Marquez returned to his “Cannibal” form with a brilliant double victory in Qatar, winning both the Saturday Sprint and Sunday’s main race. At the Losail Circuit, the Gresini rider rewrote his MotoGP story by claiming his first Sunday win in Qatar in 11 years, after an intense duel with Maverick Vinales. The KTM rider, the weekend’s big surprise, had originally finished second but was handed a 16-second penalty for low tire pressure, dropping him to 14th place.
The reshuffled podium saw Francesco Bagnaia promoted to second and Franco Morbidelli to third, both delivering smart and solid performances. Jorge Martin, back from injury, had a disappointing return: after 15 laps, he suffered a frightening crash that also involved Fabio Di Giannantonio. The Spaniard was taken to the medical center for checks.
Johann Zarco finished fourth, ahead of the Gresini Ducatis of Aldeguer and Alex Marquez. They were followed by Quartararo, Acosta, Bezzecchi, and Marini to round out the top ten. Also scoring points were Bastianini, Rins, Binder, the penalized Vinales, and Ogura. Di Giannantonio, hampered by a collision with Alex Marquez, ended up 16th, visibly frustrated.
With this victory, Marquez jumps to the top of the championship standings, sending a clear message: number 93 is back.
