On the evening of Tuesday, April 15, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, aged 83, underwent a scheduled pacemaker implantation at Rome's Santo Spirito Hospital. The procedure was performed at 8:00 PM after the President had completed his official duties for the day, including a meeting with Montenegro's Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić.
According to official sources, the operation proceeded without complications. President Mattarella returned to the cardiology ward, led by Professor Roberto Ricci, where he spent a peaceful night. He is reported to be asymptomatic and in stable clinical condition.
The intervention was planned well in advance, with no emergency circumstances involved. The President is expected to be discharged within 48 hours and may resume his duties shortly thereafter. His next scheduled engagement is on April 23 at the Quirinale, followed by participation in the Liberation Day celebrations in Genoa on April 25.
