For more than 93% of Italians, food is much more than nutrition: it is culture, identity and tradition. This is according to a survey presented by Federalimentare on the occasion of Made in Italy Day, which highlights the deep connection between food and the country's cultural heritage. According to the data, 93.2% of respondents consider food to be a fundamental component of national culture, rooted in the history of territories, local identities and the Italy of towns and villages. For 93.5%, the Italian food tradition represents a model based on common sense, moderation and quality: an approach that invites not to exclude any food, but to enhance every element of the diet in the name of balance. A central role in this path is that of the food industry, which Italians believe is capable of combining innovation, safety, accessibility and respect for tradition. 93% of citizens consider the industry's offerings to be a tool for exercising informed choice, thanks to a wide range of healthy, well-made and sustainable products. Moreover, for 90.7% of respondents, the freedom to choose what to eat is a prerequisite for greater food awareness. 37% recognize that personal well-being depends not on the consumption of individual foods, but on the overall lifestyle. And 44.1% find the distinction between “good foods” and “bad foods”, a simplification often conveyed by fake news, misleading.
