In 2025, Italian ports are expected to set a new record for cruise traffic. According to maritime agency Cemar Agency Network, this is due to strong demand recovery of the market: “Our forecasts", explained company president Sergio Senesi at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, “clearly indicate this renewed growth. The arrival of the most prominent luxury hotel brands into the cruise market will attract a new sort of client: high-spending and likely first-time cruisers. This new scenario will have a tremendous impact on the local economy". In this regard, Cemar anticipates that cruise ships will transport 14.8 million passengers to Italian ports this year, representing a +4.05% increase from 2024. Furthermore, port calls are predicted to rise to 5,482 (+6.76%) by 2024, with up to 179 units representing 57 shipping companies sailing Italian waters. The months with the most traffic will be May (816 calls), October (760), and September (748). The busiest day will be Sunday, June 18, with 38 ships parked in Italian ports and more than 95,900 cruise passengers handled in a single day. In total, 74 Italian ports will accommodate cruise traffic by 2025. Civitavecchia will still hold the record, with 3.53 million passengers, followed by Naples (1.9 million) and Genoa (1.7 million). New entries in the top ten include Palermo, Livorno, Messina, Savona, La Spezia, Venice, and Cagliari. Among the regions, Lazio leads with 3.54 million passengers (24% of the total).
