A watershed moment for the future of stadiums in Italy could occur as early as May. The Meloni government is preparing to issue the so-called "Sports Decree", which will, among other things, establish a commission procedure for the construction and renovation of sports facilities. The decree, which has received strong support from Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, intends to address the administrative and bureaucratic obstacles that have slowed the development of sporting facilities in the country for years. The new regulation allows for the appointment of a commissioner for each strategic project and the designation of mayors or their representatives as sub-commissioners with the goal of unblocking administrative procedures or initiating new projects. A change in pace that could have an immediate economic impact of 4.5-5 billion euros in investments that are already planned, with a growth prospect of up to 10 billion euros in the future years. A long-awaited step in the sporting world that could ultimately revamp Italy's sports infrastructure, including future international candidacies.
