Aldo Hugo Sallustro, the CEO and owner of the Panini Group, a world leader in the sticker industry and the historic Italian publisher of the Mickey Mouse and Marvel comics, passed away on Monday, April 21, at the age of 75. Born in Buenos Aires in 1949, Sallustro was the son of Oberdan Sallustro, president of Fiat's Argentine branch, tragically killed in 1972, and nephew of Attila Sallustro, a football legend in Naples in the 1930s. He had been in charge of Panini for more than three decades, taking over in 1991 and becoming its owner in 2016 with his sisters Anna and Teresa Baroni. Under his leadership, the historic Modena-based company has grown to distribute 5 billion stickers per year worldwide, generating a turnover of more than 1.5 billion euros, more than tripled compared to 2017. Sallustro, a reclusive character, was appreciated for his daily work ethic, which included studying data, markets, and plans. His legacy is not just that of a smart entrepreneur, but also of an innovator capable of communicating with future generations, making stickers more than just a business, but a cultural phenomenon, an intergenerational passion, and a universal symbol of dreams and memories.
