With Carlos Alcaraz forced to withdraw from the Madrid Masters 1000 due to an adductor injury, Jannik Sinner has mathematically secured the world No. 1 ranking for 52 consecutive weeks. A full year as the top-ranked player, marking his first reign at the summit of the ATP rankings.
The Italian will return to action at the Internazionali d’Italia, where he’ll be the top seed—a position he’ll also hold at Roland Garros. In Paris, Sinner will be defending the semifinal he reached in 2024, which he lost in five hard-fought sets to Alcaraz.
His 52nd week as No. 1 will begin on June 2, right in the middle of the French Slam, and the 53rd will start on June 9, at the end of the tournament.
Overtaking Sinner in the rankings now seems almost impossible: both Alcaraz and Zverev would need to achieve something extraordinary to close the gap. If Sinner holds on to the top spot beyond Roland Garros, he will equal a record held by Novak Djokovic—the most consecutive weeks at No. 1 during a first reign.
