Ram Spezia Holdings LP, a U.S.-based company, has announced it has acquired 100% of the shares of Spezia, the Ligurian team playing in Serie B. The new holding company is controlled by Thomas Roberts, a private equity professional. Originally from Boston and a former goalkeeper, he graduated from Princeton University. The new ownership has named Charlie Stillitano president, who also has an extensive background in football. He boasts a thirty-year career as a power broker in U.S. soccer, from managing events at Giants Stadium in New York during the 1994 World Cup, to contributing to the creation of Major League Soccer (MLS). For fifteen years, he organized international competitions in the U.S. with top clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus. His path was not always smooth, as after four years at the helm of MetroStars, he was dismissed due to poor results. It seemed like the end of his career at the top level, but Stillitano has always shown resilience and managed to reinvent himself thanks to his relationship-building skills. At 65, with a family from Gioia Tauro, his father founded the New Jersey Immigrant Football League and later became president of the state’s referees association, while also passing on his passion for Juventus to his son. Charlie was captain of the Pingry School team and then of Princeton University’s soccer team, where he graduated in law. In October 2022, he became the ambassador for Italy's Serie A, aiming to grow the league’s image and business in the United States.
