Migrants: CEI-Italian government agreement for a humanitarian channel from Jordan

(March 2, 2017) Seven families of Syrian citizens from the refugee camps of Jordan will come to Italy thanks to an agreement between the CEI and the Italian Government. 41 people in all, many with serious health problems, whose transfer was made possible by the Italian Embassy in Jordan and by the Apostolic Nunciature, who worked closely with Italian Caritas, UNHCR and IOM. Thanks to the humanitarian channel to these people will be guaranteed a safe and secure access to our country. The first two families will arrive in Italy on March 7 at Bari airport. The situation of the Syrian refugees in Jordan remains dramatic: hundreds of thousands are stranded in camps set up by the government or in other precarious accommodations waiting to find a solution to the own future. The same condition is also experienced by thousands of Yemenis and Iraqis, including many Christians. This is also why the country is the largest resettlement program at the global level in the last two years was launched which has enabled more than 56 thousand people to reach countries like the United States, Canada, Australia and Italy.
