Cinema as a bridge between cultures: the MedFilm Festival returns to Morocco

(March 24, 2017) "The beauty of the complexity and power of dialogue, distinctive signs of the cultural dimension of the Mediterranean, must be preserved, now more than ever, through a continuous and delicate work of weaving of relationships of knowledge, exchange and cooperation that have at their center the artistic and human expression of the people who inhabit it. With the reappearance of ghosts of separation, exclusion, segregation, to affirm the closeness between the peoples of our sea shores, the Mediterranean, through the values of equality and sharing becomes imperative”: this is how Ginella Vocca, president of MedFilm Festival, which for 23 years has been moving in this direction, continuing, with renewed strength and conviction, its internationalization activities, relationship with the peoples and cultures of the vast area stretching from the Mediterranean to the Middle East. In this context, MedFilm attends, for the ninth consecutive year, the Festival du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Tetouan, in Morocco, with a significant selection of movies and Italian guests. The link between the two initiatives is getting stronger. In particular this year Tetouan borrows from MedFilm very important activity: the Forum of the National Film Schools of the Area. Reaching like MedFilm festival its 23rd edition, the Festival du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Tetouan - from March 25 to April 1 - remains one of the most interesting events of the Maghreb cinema, led by historic artistic director Ahmed Elhousni, and dedicated to the promotion of Mediterranean quality cinema. The MedFilm selected for the Moroccan event some of the best Italian films of 2016 movie season. "Indivisibili" by Edoardo De Angelis is going to run. Presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival and received with enthusiasm by the Italian public, "Indivisibili" tells the story of Viola and Daisy, Neapolitan Siamese twins who work as singers pushed by their family that wants to make money on their condition. One day the sisters discover that there is the possibility of being separated, so that each one can live her own life, but the family faced them with a moral blackmail, frightened by the risk of losing a valuable source of support. Their dream of a normal life threatens to break against the wall of human misery that surrounds them. The documentary section sees "Delta Park" by Mario Brenta and Karine De Villers, in competition at the festival MedFilm. osmos, Moses, Efosa, Franklin, Augustin, Sunday, Esosa, Godwin, Abdoulai, Enry, Mustafa, Nathaniel, Charles, Victor, Ali. These are African children names that could be found in a shelter, in a field, at a station or on the street, but instead ended up in a hotel on the Po Delta, the Delta Park, turned into a refugee center , waiting for the acceptance of the application for political asylum. Meanwhile they share the daily life with the owner and his family, that in exchange for this unusual hospitality receives from the state 30 euro per day for each immigrant, an exchange that allowed him to restart the hotel.
