(11 April, 2017) Davide Alogna, a young and talented violinist, aspires to be the ambassador of 20th century Italian music in the world. At the young age of 35, he has already performed as a soloist in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Italy and abroad. On April 24th he will perform the Ottorino Respighi’s violin and orchestra Concerto “All’antica” in A Minor P. 75 at the Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall on Istanbul alongside the Cameristi della Scala directed by Hakan Sensoy. It is a truly unique opportunity given the mystery that has long surrounded this work. It was written by Respighi in 1905 by Respighi. It first premiered in Budapest by Remy Principe in 1925 after which it was forgotten for nearly 60 years. It was recently brought to life once again by the violinist Ingolf Turban in 1990. However, the complete musical score is not in circulation today (orchestral scores edited by Ricordi available to borrow whereas violin scores are difficult to retrace) and among violinists today it is nearly completely unknown. “After I found the original manuscript in a library in Munich, I continued my research to recuperate Respighi’s original parts for violin and piano as well as those for orchestra” according to Alogna. Alogna is the only violinist interested in this long forgotten piece, while also simultaneously carrying out personal revisions that will soon be published. “A process of rediscovery of 20th century music in under way” adds Alogna. “It awakens an increasingly bigger attention in the public that few musicians are interested in promoting because it requires an investment of time and energy that someone else has already put in for the composition of this great repertoires. I recently developed a passion for this lesser known piece that has not yet received the attention it deserves. I also developed the love for Ottorino Respighi’s music who is especially known for his Roman tryptic ‘Poemi Sinfonici’ (Symphonic Poems) that boasts a very interesting production for the violin. I decided to devote myself to bringing his music to a vaster and more international audience”. Alogna in fact performed Respighi’s work at the Prince Mahidol Hall in Bangkok, Thailand for the first time from March 3 – 4, 2017 followed by performances in Cascais, Portugal and New York. The programme for the concert in Istanbul includes the world premiere of Munir Nurettin Beken; Franz Schubert’s Symphony No.5 in B-flat major; Gioacchino Rossini’s ouverture of The Silken Road; and Ottorino Respighi’s Concert for Violin and Orchestra in A Minor.

THE ARTIST

Davide Alogna studied the piano and violin at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory followed by Superior Conservatory of Paris where he received the “Premier prix a l’umanité”. In 2009, he was given a Stradivarius (171, “Ex Heifetz”) to perform various concerts for RAI and the Council of Ministers. He was awarded in several national and international competitions. In 2009 he was awarded the “Prix d’Interpretation Musical” of the Cité universitaire and INAEM in Spain. In 2010 the City of Milan awarded Alogno the “Award of Excellence in Music 2010”. Alogno also performed at the Berliner Philarmonie, Smetana Hall in Prgue, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Salle Cortot in Paris, Gasteig in Munich, Auditorium laVerdi in Milan, Palau de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and Yongsan Art Hall in Seoul. 2016 was peppered with important soloist debuts: at the Herkulesaal in Munich in January and at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo during a five-concert tour. Last June he performed at the Stern Hall at Carnegi Hall in New York for the US premier of Mozart’s double concert for violion, piano and orchestra. Alogna latest album was released in September; a duo with the pianist Bruno Canino for ‘Suonare News’ that received great critical acclaim for their deep collaboration and common vision for music, despite their differences in age. Alogna has also taught violin at the “F. Cilea” Conservatory in Reggio Calabria since 2014 and at the IMEP in Belgium since  2015.
