Nanni Moretti at the Bafici Festival with “Caro Diario”

(17 April 2017) “I believe in people. But I don’t believe in the majority of people…” is one of Nanni Moretti’s most famous lines and he says it in his film “Caro Diario” (1993). The movie will be shown on April 20th at 17:10, Room 4 at Village Recoleta for the Bafici (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) April 19-30. Following the screening of the film will be a talk with the film director, communicates the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires. It will then be shown on April 30th at 22:30 at the Gaumont cinema. The film is divided into three chapters: “In Vespa”, “Isole”, and “Medici”. In the first chapter, Moretti explores Rome’s less travelled roads during the summer and comments on American cinema (“Henry: blood rain”), on the so-called “Italian cinema” where everybody yearns for the lost youth, betrayed traditions, on the beauty of Roman houses, love of dancing and “Flashdance”. The second chapter is about Nanni and his friend Gerardo searching for peace and inspiration on the Eolian islands and finally the third chapter, Nanni recounts of his experience (real) with his illness and doctors’ inability to listen. NANNI MORETTI

 After several short films shot with super 8 film, he made his first feature film “Io sono un autarchico” (1976) which received unexpected acclaim. Nanni Moretti often stars in his films. After “Ecce bombo” (1978) he made “Sogni d’oro” (1981), “Bianca” (1983), “La messa è finite” (1985), “Palombella rossa” (1998), the documentary film “La cosa” (1990), and “Caro diario” (1993) which one best direction at Cannes in 1994. He also starred in “Padre padrone” (1977) and “Il portaborse” (1990). In 1987, he founded a production society called “Sacher Film”, favouring emerging Italian directors. In 1998, he directed the autobiographical film “Aprile” followed by “La stanza del figlio” (2001) which one the Cannes Palme d’Or for best film. In 2006 he directed “Il Caimano” (Silver Ribbon and David di Donatello Award). He starred in and wrote the screen play for “Caos Calmo” directed by A.L. Grimaldi (2008). He was the director of the Torino Film Festival from 2007 to 2008 and in 2011 wrote, directed, and starred in “Habemus papam” which received 3 David di Donatello awards the following year. In 2012, he recited the audiobook “Sillabari” by G. Parise. In 2015 he directed, produced, wrote, and starred in “Mia madre”. (Source: Treccani).
