(12 May 2017) Italian architecture of the third millennium between history, research and innovation: "Small Utopias" (Piccole Utopie), an exhibition on the "new" Italian architecture presented by the Italian Institute of Culture of Madrid, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Maxxi National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, the Universidad de Navarra, and the Delegations in Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco Navarro. The exhibition, curated and designed by MAXXI Architecture, will be hosted by the Delegations in Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco Navarro, respectively from May 10 to June 4 at the San Sebastián headquarters, and from June 7 to July 31 July in Bilbao. The exhibition explores the best Italian architectural currents along three parallel directions: authors, projects, and themes; identifying buildings or projects designed to highlight not only the ability to imagine bold and convincing architectural solutions, but also the ability to make them become real and liveable spaces without losing integrity and beauty along the way. MEMORY AND THE FUTURE

The exhibition includes "sustainable" condominiums, individual homes, studio houses, composing a brief but significant research on space and lifestyle of the "third millennium", while remembering the Italian attitude towards the notion of the "city". The ten authors selected for this exhibition are examples of a widespread and "optimistic" trend that recalls some of the characteristics of Italian architecture of the past adapted to our times: the natural propensity to keep memory and the future together, the regeneration of the existing and glamour of novelty.
