The great Italian cinema celebrates Pirandello:

(7 June 2017) The Italian Institute of Culture of Beijing celebrates the 150th anniversary of Luigi Pirandello's birth with masters of Italian cinema with a screening of Marco Bellocchio's film "The Nanny" (La Balia) (Italy, 1999, 106') with Chinese subtitles on June 9th at 19:00 in the IIC Auditorium; following the conference "Pirandello in China" and the screening of the film "Kaos" by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani. In late nineteenth century Rome, pervaded by social unrest; a child was born into an upper middle class family. The lives of his father, Professor Mori, a psychiatrist, and his wife Vittoria would be transformed forever: although she fulfils her duties as a mother, Vittoria cannot feel anything for her child. Mori then decides to hire a nurse, Annetta, a young girl he spotted on the train. Annetta takes care of the infant with great affection, but the attention she gives their son, increases Vittoria's anguish. The film is loosely based on a novel by Pirandello and was presented at the 52nd Cannes Film Festival. (Red)


THE HISTORY OF THE IIC BEIJING


The Italian Institute of Culture of Beijing, formally called the Cultural Office of the Italian Embassy, was founded in 1986. Initially, it was provisionally located in an office at the Ta Yuan Diplomatic Office Building, the Institute immediately distinguished itself for its prominent role in promoting Italian culture in China, adopting such a role required ampler spaces. A new building was then inaugurated on May 15, 2001. The new seat of the IIC was established within the Italian Embassy complex in the Sanlitun district, which was renovated and adapted to the new requirements of the architect, Sergio Giocondi.
