Photographs, showcasing the

(June 7, 2017) The photographer Elisabetta Catalano (1941 - 2015) has lived and worked in Rome. An internationally renowned portraitist, she is considered to be the best witness of the life of the artists and characters of literature, art, entertainment and culture in general who have crossed the history of Italy from the Seventies to the present. Catalano’s photographer debut is on Fellini's 8½ set, in which she plays the role of Anouk Aimée's sister. On the set, in free time, she starts shooting with an old camera from her father and the shots are released on Espresso and Il Mondo. Afterwards, Fellini will call her to take a picture on the set of his other films. The great director will be several times in her studio, and later will choose some of these portraits for the covers of his books. To her is dedicated the exhibition "Elisabetta Catalano. Precious Testaments", open to the public until June 25 at the MAMM, the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow, and organized in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture of the Russian Capital. The exhibition will take place at the festival "Fashion and Style in Photography" and presents for the first time to the Russian public the work of the Roman photographer. (PO / Red)

ABOUT / A MILESTONE

In the seventies she decides to dedicate herself to portraiture and in her studio in Rome she photographs the most important artists of avant-garde movements such as Alighiero Boetti, Joseph Beuys, Gilbert & George, Sandro Chia, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente, Cesare Tacchi, Jannis Kounellis, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Vettor Pisani and many more. It will result, in addition to the portraits, in an active collaboration in the creation of works of behavioral and conceptual art. In numerous occasions artists use Catalano images to make a work. For example, Gino De Dominicis uses a portrait made by Elisabetta in the studio as her work for the Contemporary exhibition at the Villa Borghese Parking in Rome. With other artists, such as Fabio Mauri and Vettor Pisani, she collaborates in her studio for the preparation of performances, and then realizes those that will become iconic reference images.
