Photography: 'Silentium': the fascinating 'explorations' of Euro Rotelli

(6 July 2017) The swirling of the rain, the darting of sardines, and the slow advancement of a crab. The Galerija Fotografija of Ljubljana, in collaboration of the Italian Institute of Culture will host the exhibition "Silentium" until August 19th: the new exhibition project of the Italian photographer, Euro Rotelli. With "Silentium" series, Rotelli investigates the creatures of the sea, capturing images, drawing on abysses in the company of their inhabitants, inciting curiosity in the viewer to follow their movements, above the water or in the sand. The environment then changes and loses its expressive dimension with the fish markets. Rotelli state, "However, the creatures of the sea still seem to dance in sinuous and in perfect choreographies, communicating their tragic and silent silence their last breath, their impotent cry, and their breath of life. Walking among the market stands and the people busy choosing their fish choose in front of the merchant's comments, amidst bustling crowd at peak time; I perceived their invocation to dwell on and to admire their composite beauty as the last tribute to life". For years Rotelli has been producing art catalogues, publications, and advertisement campaigns for important companies. At the same time, he also studies and photographs cities both on commission and for personal research. He is also attracted by landscapes and people. His pictures have been awarded internationally and his photographs have been published in national and international journals and have exhibited both in Italy and abroad in galleries and both public and private collections. HIS ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES

Euro Rotelli was born in Tuscany in 1955 and then moved to Friuli. His first artistic experience takes place with painting and he then discovered photography. He became a photographer in the advertising sector, dedicating himself simultaneously to the experimentation of various techniques: in particular, the use of Polaroid is a fundamental phase of his artistic career, enabling him to "manually" engage in photography and to work on development and printing processes, with evermore different and original results. His research goes beyond the camera, including various experiments in the dark room.
