A tribute to Tenco at the IIC with Radiosuccessi

(July 21, 2017) Fifty years ago, on January 27, 1967, died Luigi Tenco, singer-songwriter member of the so-called “scuola genevose”, a group of artists including Fabrizio De André, Bruno Lauzi, Gino Paoli and Umberto Bindi, who have deeply renovated Italian pop music. His dramatic and unexpected death shocked his fans and left as a legacy a sublime, often ironic and bitter poetry, deeply influenced by Sartre existentialism of the Paris scene. Since then, a lot has been written and said about what caused the artist to take away his life, in an alternation between long silences and sudden regurgitations of morbid curiosities, which often resulted in much public and inconclusive controversy. The Italian Cultural Institute, on the anniversary of the death of Tenco, offers a tribute to his musician's talents and his poetic sensibility presenting the Duo Radiosuccessi in Melbourne on July 27 at 18. Radiosuccessi, Ilaria Crociani(vocals) and Mirko Guerrini (piano and sax),
will present to the audience a jazz reinterpretation of Luigi Tenco's most famous songs.

ABOUT / CROCIANI AND GUERRINI

Ilaria Crociani, singer songwriter, originally from Florence and now based in Melbourne, studied piano at the Conservatorio di Musica L. Cherubini in Florence, and afterwards alto sax. During her shows Ilaria proposes a jazz version of famous Italian pop songs from the '30s to the 60's, i.e. the golden age of the Italian swing. Mirko Guerrini was born in Florence in 1973. He starts playing piano when he’s 6 yo, then he switches to saxophone. In Australia he formed the band Torrio! together with Paul Grabowsky and Niko Schauble, with whom he has recently been in Italy for a tour and recorded of an album that will be released in the coming months.
